Potato-X
Sector: Agriculture and food productionThis use case presents a collaboration between different participants, including Finnish potato farmers, an agricultural machinery manufacturer, the Belgian agricultural data ecosystem, and Finnish agricultural ecosystem builders. The aim is to share data on all aspects of potato farming – from planning, ploughing, planting, and maintenance to harvesting. The data, which includes soil quality, location, yield, and machinery use, is shared between two different data ecosystems. The ultimate goal is to create new business services and boost profitability and productivity for farmers. This will be achieved by establishing standards, business rules, governance systems, and connectors to facilitate data sharing between the two ecosystems.

Maritime traffic notification service NEMO
Sector: Mobility and LogisticsFintraffic Vessel Traffic Services is proactively developing new digital service packages. One of these is the upcoming NEMO maritime traffic notification service – data from NEMO will be utilised in a variety of processes, such as monitoring the border crossings of persons, maritime search and rescue, overseeing the transport of hazardous substances, collecting fairway dues, port operation, safety and security surveillance, planning port state control and monitoring infectious diseases. Thanks to the new system, notification data on port visits by merchant ships will be smoothly sent to many different recipients on a centralised basis through a single system.
Location Europe
Sector: Location dataThe Location Europe data integration platform provides harmonised location data from different countries across Europe. We are able to integrate high-value datasets together and also add other than location-based data. The platform is operated under the Location Innovation Hub (LIH) and was originally developed in the GeoE3 project. The main idea is to provide testing possibilities for LIH clients.
IDSA HUB Finland
Sector: Project supporting data spacesGaia-X Hub Finland
Sector: Project supporting data spacesGaia-X aims to develop and build a common data infrastructure that allows data to flow or be accessed within the European single market and beyond. The aim is to share data reliably and fairly so individuals and businesses can unlock its full value and create new services.
Gaia-X Finland, co-ordinated by NIIS, is Finland’s national Gaia-X hub. We work with Finnish companies to seize the opportunities presented by Gaia-X and contribute to co-creating future European data spaces. There are many opportunities for Finnish companies to participate.
FINNPASS – The Digital Product Passport (DPP) group for Finland
Sector: Digital production passports, Circular economy, SkillsFinnish Maritime Data Space
Sector: Mobility and LogisticsCurrently, the traffic flow in ports is not optimised, and shipping companies lack an easy way to share operational data with other stakeholders, such as ports, other shipping companies, and ships. Ships rush at full speed to the vicinity of the continent, waiting until a docking space is confirmed from the port. This rushing increases fuel consumption, environmental impact, and transportation costs. To tackle these problems, Fintraffic coordinates the development of the Finnish maritime data space. The development started through two pilot projects that Sitra co-financed and continues, with in an EU project where Fintraffic aims to expand the NEMO data management system with data space capabilities.
Fin-CLARIN
Sector: Language models and artificial intelligenceFIN-CLARIN is a consortium formed by Finnish universities, CSC, and the Institute for the Languages of Finland. It assists humanities researchers in using, refining, preserving, and sharing research data. The Language Bank, which provides data and tools, is part of FIN-CLARIN’s service package. The University of Helsinki is responsible for data acquisition, tool development, and training activities, while CSC is responsible for technical maintenance.
